Good news, equipment to be used for a conference in 3D terrain is a bit large for my apartment ridiculous but if you want to know why I started this post by saying “good news” and if in addition you want to see this system operate video. Created by a team from the Institute for Creative Technologies at the University of South Carolina, the machine is rather greedy resource. Imagine, you must send images at very high speed (4320 frames per second) on a mirror that runs very fast.

As the mirror rotates, it returns the images in all directions around him. On the other hand, a person is shot from 72 different angles. These views are handled by a PC with “a modern graphics card and are projected onto a field of vision to 180 degrees. A different image is projected onto the mirror that turns, giving the illusion of a face in 3 dimensions. For the moment the display is in black and white but apparently it is a problem they can manage.

The good news: you will see this display in France to meet International Virtual Reality in Laval from 22 to 26 April 2009. I know who do not hesitate to make the trip.
