For over a new year just now the Joe Harmon and his crew of graduate student from North Carolina State University have been building construction Splinter a “Supercar” made generally from timber. And this new green wheels design car is Joe’s NC State Master’s thesis and the project which he explains is a “scholastic endeavor in which we are simply trying to explore materials, learn, teach, share ideas, and stimulate creativity.”

And this Splinter Wooden Super car is being generally used in each possible part of car; include a body, chassis, and a large percentage of suspension wheels and components. Don’t be fooled, this is not a wooden car sculpture; this Green Wheels is going to be a best presentation street mechanism. Joe and his team are aim for a target weight of about 2,500 lbs and over 600 horses under wood veneer hood.

Now before I just get an avalanche of nasty emails, let me now say that this Splinter Wooden Super car is not an unblemished example of sustainability. This is not an intended to be. This is an endeavor in creativity and innovation. And I think this is a greenUP-worthy since that is breaking from convention like this that reminds us to rethink process, design, and materials.
